From the Mind of Don masthead.

Every story begins with certainty.

The good ones begin to unravel when that certainty starts falling apart. When you discover that the question you started with was the wrong one.

That's true of mysteries.
I used to think mysteries were built around answers.

I was wrong.

They're built around assumptions. The hero begins by believing one thing. The reader believes it too.

Then, one fact changes everything.

The old question no longer matters. A more important one has taken its place. I've started to think life works much the same way.

Interesting moments don’t happen when we find an answer. They happen when we discover we've been asking the wrong question all along.
