From the Mind of Don masthead.
From the Mind of Don masthead.

I spent the better part of an hour writing a scene last night.

It was the best thing I wrote all day.

Then I deleted it.

Damn! There’s another hour shot to hell.
But was it?

I’ve written thousands of lines nobody ever read.

Straight to the circular file.

That doesn't mean they were wasted.

They were supposed to tell me about my character.
His setting. His dialogue. The cadence of the story.

Yeah, last night’s scene is gone.

What I learned from it isn't.
